The periodical Luk arose from the desire to provide an up-to-date and detailed record of the projects undertaken by the Centro Studi Ragghianti. Luk is the name Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti himself chose for this bulletin, harking back to the ancient origins of the city of Lucca. The first series of the periodical came out with five numbers, directed at first by Pier Carlo Santini and subsequently by Giovanni Fanelli, both of whom were directors of the Foundation. In addition to an account of the exhibitions and shows mounted and the donations acquired, the periodical also published the speeches delivered on the occasion of the inauguration of the Centro Studi on 27 September 1981, the by-laws of the Fondazione Ragghianti, and the testimonials and memorials following the death of Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti, Licia Collobi and Pier Carlo Santini
The new series of the journal, directed by Vittorio Fagone, is published with an extensively revised format composed of two parts each divided into eight sections. The first section of the initial part, Rèpere, hosts current contributions by scholars of diverse backgrounds and approaches, who enquire into the changes and prospects affecting the visual arts and the world of images in general with the advent of the third millennium. The second section, Inventario, offers in-depth reflections on the exhibitions mounted by the Fondazione. The third, The Arts in Lucca, testifies to the Fondazione’s attention to – or joint activity with – cultural projects and initiatives considered to be particularly significant for the city. A further section has, since issue nr. 2, focused on the current problems of museum studies, an area of study of which C. L. Ragghianti was an ardent champion and which today is enriched with a veritable experimental laboratory that has taken form through the many displays and exhibitions set up by the Fondazione. The final section, Ragghiantian Studies, which is devoted to the presentation of original research and surveys of recent studies on the critical work of Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti, concludes the first part of the journal, based predominantly on essays and critical appraisals. The second part, on the other hand, provides detailed information on the activities and projects undertaken by the Fondazione, as well as the pre-existing and more recent acquisitions of works of art, archives and book holdings. Finally, a special section publishes significant abstracts of dissertations and research articles by young scholars addressing themes of relevance to Lucca and in particular to the Fondazione Ragghianti |
